You thought the Vita was dead and buried? Think again. Here are seven games worth watching in 2017.
Danganronpa V3
The third visual novel in this weirdo series will leave Hope's Peak Academt behind, as we visit a prison school for gifted inmates. Once again, you'll be forced to play a bizarre mutual killing game to escape.
The gameplay is similar to the first two games - listen to testimonies and pick apart contradictions - but you'll now need to carefully deploy lies to defeat your opponents in debates.
Chroma Squad
Chroma Squad is all about making your own Power Rangers show. It's so faithful, that the developer got in trouble with the people who own Power Rangers. Whoops.
Anyway, you'll make a TV studio and hire actors and crew - and then film those all-important fight scenes by playing a turn-based battle in front of a green screen. Very clever, and lots of fun.
Full Throttle Remastered
After Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle, Double Fine is bringing yet another LucasArts classic to Vita. This time, it's biker saga Full Throttle.
You play as Ben - a gruff gang leader who gets framed for murder. You'll have to solve puzzles, beat up rival bikers, and talk to characters to clear your name. Full Throttle is notoriously short but full of heart and soul.
Akiba’s Beat
This is a follow-up to Akiba's Trip - the game where you defeat enemies by removing their clothes. Oh, Japan! This one is completely different though.
It's got nothing to do with music or rhythm (that would be too obvious), instead it's a full-on JRPG with battle scenes and all that. The important bit is the story, which sees the heroes suck in a Groundhog Day-style curse.
Zero Escape: The Nonary Games
Vita fans who loved Virtue's Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma might not have played the excellent first game in the trilogy: 999. Well, that will change next year.
This is a remastered bundle of 999 and Virtue's Last Reward, and adds voice acting, higher quality art and audio, and various other changes to that first game. No need to dig up a DS cartridge anymore.
Heart Forth, Alicia
Alicia is retro through and through. It's inspired by the gameplay of Castlevania, the worlds of Zelda, and the story of Xenogears - and mushes them together for a Metroidvania RPG filled with crazy boss battles and whatnot.
The graphics are delicious and the story - which will feature intertwining narratives - sounds intriguing. The game smashed its Kickstarter goal, and crowd-funding fans unlocked the Vita stretch-goal too. Expect it on the handheld in 2017.
Shakedown Hawaii
Remember Retro City Rampage? That was the ode to classic GTA games, and it was filled with references to retro games and movies. Well, Shakedown Hawaii is the sequel and it looks pretty dishy.
You'll have to cobble together your corporate empire, and then head out with a shotgun to destroy the competition. All this, in a massive open world city filled with easter eggs. This should keep you busy for a while.
