Legend of the Lancer is a jousting-themed Metroidvania that could come to Vita
Don't horse around
Legend of the Lancer my be inspired by Mega Man X, Super Metroid, and Blaster Master, but it impresses us even without all of that name dropping.
I mean, a Metroidvania in which you can transform a horse into a bi-pedal warrior while you're still riding it easily grabs some attention. Not to mention this game's stunning pixel art.
The non-game inspiration behind Legend of the Lancer includes the classic stories depicting legendary heroes who had to fight through turmoil. This is why the game's main weapon is a mighty lance; best known for being wielded by mounted medieval knights.
You're just a kid called Sam on an adventure; exploring a new world with a mysterious past. Things pick up when Sam finds The Magic Hilt when entering the the skull of The Dragon.
This hilt can be kitted up with a hammer, a grappling hook, and even rockets. It also comes with a magic horse that can be called upon to clear obstacles, and fight for Sam if need be.
Together, Sam, the horse, and The Magic Hilt compete in local jousting tournaments, working up to the Grand Jousting Tournament.
To ensure they're ready, they complete quests which involve venturing into dungeons and ancient temples to get better equipment, skills, and weapons. Boss fights will be frivolous.
Legend of the Lancer is intended as an epic, non-linear adventure, and is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. It looks great so far, and only $35,000 is needed to finish the game and release it.
However, we'd love to have this game on Vita, but for that to happen the $215,000 stretch goal must be reached. We'll let you know if it makes it.
