Vita-exclusive FPS Killzone: Mercenary blasting onto Sony's handheld in 2013

Listen up, all aspiring guns for hire: on the US PlayStation Blog, a trailer for the forthcoming Vita first-person shooter Killzone: Mercenary has been posted. The game itself is contracted to launch in 2013.

From the looks of the teaser vid (posted below), the Mercenary tag will be more than just a title - you will actually be rewarded in the game with cold hard cash for kills and takedowns.

You will be carrying out missions for either the Helghast or the ISA, playing them off against each other to boost your own coffers and to gain access to each side's most prized tech.

And for the first time in a Killzone campaign, you will be able to decide your tactics and loadouts in Mercenary BEFORE your mission.

Blood on your fingers

Killzone: Mercenary is a Vita exclusive, and it will be using the impressive Killzone 3 engine to render every blood-spattered burst in immaculate detail.

Judging by the trailer, it looks to be set in an Asian urban locale; will feature plenty of up close and personal combat; and will make full use of the Vita's touchscreen, e.g. for plunging your knife into an unsuspecting enemie's cranium. Ouch.

According to the post on the US PlayStation Blog, Killzone: Mercenary is slated for a "2013 release". Can't come quickly enough.
