Square Enix producer says Final Fantasy X HD remake for Vita 'still in early stages of development'

Looking forward to playing through the high-definition tenth anniversary edition of Final Fantasy X on your shiny new PS Vita this year?

Well, we've got some bad news for you.

In an interview with German magazine M! Games, the game's original producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed that the Vita version was still in the early stages of development.

New edition

In the same interview, Kitase referred to the project as a "Neuauflage", which our resident German speaker Rich informs me means 'new edition'. This would appear to confirm that Final Fantasy X on Vita will be a remake rather than just a remastered version of the PlayStation 2 RPG.

The Square Enix game producer also mentioned that he would personally "ensure that the remake of the game will have the same quality as the original" despite his not having a confirmed role in this new edition's development.

It wouldn't be a Square Enix game, by the way, if it wasn't fashionably late to its own party - Final Fantasy X's tenth anniversary was last year (technically, this year for European fans).
