Updated on August 22nd, at 12:00: EA has been in contact with us to say that FIFA 14 for the PS Vita will indeed be another re-skin of FIFA Football. So, there you go.

Original story follows...

There was consternation among FIFA fans last year when it was discovered that the Vita version of FIFA 13 was, in fact, little more than a re-skinned version of Vita launch title FIFA Football.

And it looks like there might be even more consternation this year. According to reports, you see, FIFA 14 for Vita is going to be a re-skinned version of FIFA 13. A re-skin of a re-skin. Re-sk-in-ception.

Speaking to Eurogamer at Gamescom in Cologne, David Rutter from EA Sports confirmed that FIFA 14 for Vita will feature "the same great gameplay and new kits". Which sounds like a re-skin.

Skin deep

When asked whether FIFA 14 will be sold for less than your average Vita title, if it is, as suggested, a slightly polished version of a two-year-old game, Rutter replied:

"I have nothing to do with the prices, but I'll be clear, it's the same great gameplay. And obviously with any new kits."

I don't think that's very clear at all, if I'm honest.

We've contacted EA for comment.
