Ubisoft confident that big-name franchises will drive PS Vita sales

It may not be setting retail on fire (metaphorically speaking), but the PS Vita's initially sluggish sales haven't dampened Ubisoft's hopes for the platform.

Speaking to IGN, Ubisoft’s Senior VP of Sales and Marketing, Tony Key, said that it was “definitely too early to say that Vita’s not going to be a success".

Understandably, Key believes part of that turnaround will be down to the appearance of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed III: Liberation on Vita this winter.

Answering the call

Key also hinted that another big winter release - no doubt referring to Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified - will also play an important role in selling the system to gamers, and believed the competition between it and ACIII: Liberation "will raise all boats".

"It’s going to generate a lot of interest in the Vita this holiday season. Sony’s going to be spending a lot of money and resources to make sure that the Vita is there and it’s relevant and it’s doing well."

The comments come days after Sony Europe revealed it was “very relaxed and confident” about the Vita's future.

Much like Ubisoft, Sony believes that a combination of strong first and third-party software will turn around the system's fortunes over the course of the year.
