Over on PocketGamer.biz, the 2009 second quarter iPhone Quality Index has been published, which scrapes in statistics from a variety of different iPhone media sources to determine which companies and games are coming out on top of Apple's handset.

Although it didn't score top place as a company (probably because it doesn't have all that many games on the App Store shelf), Firemint must be celebrating a significant triumph after its realistic racing game Real Racing took first place.

An average score of 9.33 out of 10 was calculated from six different independent reviews. And if that's not enough for the celebrated Australian developer, its casual iPhone puzzle game phenomenon Flight Control tied in second place with Ocarina's Leaf Trombone, proving it must be doing something right Down Under.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
