Nokia has announced the release of Creebies, a new 3D virtual pet game exclusive to the Ovi Store.

We say new, but if you’re a longstanding PG reader, the name Creebies might sound familiar, because it was first announced for Nokia’s ill-fated N-Gage gaming service over two years ago.

Sadly it never saw release, so we’re glad to see it finally cropping up on the new service in a suitably evolved state (including touchscreen support).

From Creatures to Creebies

Developer Gameware calls Creebies, “one of the most advanced artificial life simulations ever created for a mobile communication device,” thanks to advanced features such as fully morphable models which allow for “a virtually unlimited variety of characters”.

And it should know as members of the team were involved in developing the famous Creatures series of games.

There’s also the possibility of breeding your own Creebi, which shows off another neat feature.

Your little Creebling (you can have that one for free, thanks Nokia) will be “an accurate mix of both parents in appearance and temperament.”

The game features four themed islands: cheerful Happi, desert-like Gobi, tiki-filled Creepi and bubbly Blobbi. Each features a range of shops that let you kit out your Creebi with clothing, toys and accessories.

There’s also a handful of mini-games to provide some relief from virtual parenting. According to Gameware, the Snake mini-game homage alone is worth the purchase price, which is £4.

We’ll have a review for you soon.
