It's been nearly a year since iMech Online was first unveiled at WWDC 2012. That's a long time to wait in the world of smartphone gaming, but the PvP giant robot blaster has finally made it to the App Store.

And it boasts a brand of metallic carnage the likes of which mobile gamers are rarely treated to. We get to kill zombies all the time, you see, but firing rockets at friends in giant robot suits? That sounds fresh.

iMech Online is a third-person twin-stick shooter in which you guide one of 12 fully customisable mechs into battle against up to seven other real people in online deathmatches.

You might remember its predecessor iMech, which didn't exactly blow our reviewer's socks off back in 2009. While the name might be (almost) the same, though, iMech Online is in the hands of a different developer, although robot fights are still the order of the day.

iMech Online is a free-to-play experience, so features a store full of upgrades that's updated regularly with new items you can strap onto the side of your stompy robot death machine.

It may not be the finest tuned online blaster in the world, but there's a blunt charm to iMech Online that makes its fast-paced blast outs pretty entertaining.

The game is available from the App Store [download] right now for nothing at all, and will apparently be available for Ouya when the 'unconsole' officially debuts later in the year.
