Pier Solar HD trailer compares the Android and Ouya-bound RPG's new HD graphics to the 16-bit original
It's super effective
During IndieCade, WaterMelon had Nintendo present the debut trailer for Pier Solar HD.
This is a remake of WaterMelon's RPG of the same name that was released in 2010 on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.
(That's not a major typo; Pier Solar was released as a homebrew game for the 1990 console in 2010. WaterMelon is bringing the HD version to Dreamcast as well, just because it can.)
In the trailer, the new HD graphics and cutscenes are shown off and compared to the original 16-bit graphics.
It's revealed that a quick trip to the Options menu allows you to switch between both graphics style, too. The same switcheroo can be done with the game's soundtrack as well.
The trailer also boasts of a Director's Cut, and some added mini-games as well. Unfortunately, a mere mention of them is all we get at this point in time.
If you haven't heard of Pier Solar HD before, that's our fault, as we never covered its successful Kickstarter last year. The crowdfunding effort raised enough to secure the game's release on many platforms, including Android and Ouya.
Pier Solar HD is a traditional RPG that follows the plight of three best friends, Hoston, Alina, and Edesso, as they seek a rare magic herb to cure Hoston's father of a deadly disease.
However, the friends end up getting pulled into a much larger plot surrounding the Great Architects.
Pier Solar HD is being touted for a release in early 2014. Whether that includes all of the platforms or just the Wii U isn't clear, so we'll be keeping an ear out for any information on the Android and Ouya release.
