Test your 8-bit gaming knowledge on DS with Our Video Game Exams

While it's getting increasingly tough to muster up much enthusiasm for new brain training, exam-based or life-sorting-out games, here's a game we can get excited about: Namco Bandai's Our Video Game Exams is an offering that shuns the traditional algebra, spatial awareness tests and general knowledge quizzes for something we can all appreciate.

Well, those of us aged over about 25 at least.

The game consists of 500 lessons taken from 30 classic 8-bit generation Namco console games. So it's sort of like a new addition of Namco Museum but not, because the games are divided into bite-sized playable chunks.

So you might be mastering platforming skills in Mappy, then fighting dragons in The Tower of Druaga. Other games included are Galaga, Sky Kid, Dragon Spirit, Adventures of Valkyrie and Star Luster.

Essentially, anyone who owned a Famicom back in the day is going to be filled with nostalgia as most of the versions of the games are taken from Nintendo's console. Don't expect them to be updated or the better looking arcade versions – it's going to be chunky 8-bit visuals all the way.

Sadly, Our Video Game Exams currently only has a release date for Japan where it's due out in April. But it's one retro fans will want to have an eye on importing. As for everyone else, we'll let you know if a western release is ever announced.
