If my local Homebase on a bank holiday weekend is anything to go by, home improvements are the work of the devil. The people walking miserably around aisles filled with wallpaper and kitchen sinks indicate that DIY is designed to suck out your very soul. And make you stroppy with your other half.

Still, who am I to judge? There are probably lots of people out there who enthusiastically embrace DIY like a dog does the leg of a chair.

And those are just the people who will no doubt be thrilled by the announcement of Our House, a new DS game which makes it possible for players to design, build and decorate their own virtual houses.

The game goes even further than that, though. It actually puts you in the shoes of a contractor being hired for all sorts of jobs, such as laying flooring, arranging furniture and hanging shelves. Using the money you make from these lucrative jobs, you can then customise your own dream home.

It all sounds scarily realistic, right down to being able to pop into the local home improvement store to buy new tools.

The actual working part of the game is replicated through mini-games, of which there are 100 in total. It essentially sounds like WarioWare with saws, chisels and maybe even the odd bit of builder's cleavage if you're lucky, ladies.

Our House is scheduled for release at the end of the year in the US. There's no definite news on a UK release but we'll get back to you on that. Unlike a real-life builder, we actually will, too.
