Job posting hints at possibility

Will Half-Life 2 dev Valve jump into the mobile hardware space?

Pocket Gamer's very own eagle-eyed editor-in-chief Kristan Reed has just stumbled across a rather interesting job posting from Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead creator Valve.

'Why so interesting?' we hear you ask. Well, the job post, which is for an industrial designer, explains how the Steam operator is "frustrated by the lack of innovation" in the computer hardware space and is "jumping in" to presumably turn things around.

Now, the post doesn't specifically mention mobile hardware of any kind, and Valve's first project is likely to be a content box of some sort, but portable hardware is bound to follow somewhere down the line. This is Valve we're talking about, after all.

If you're familiar with the Steam digital content platform, you'll already know that it's packed full of indie hits, such as Bastion. It's also pretty well known for its crazy sales, in which you can often grab popular Mac and PC titles for just a few quid.

If Valve can leverage some of Steam's strengths in its own entry into the mobile apps market, it'll be perfectly placed to challenge current top dog Apple.
