Pocket Gamer Connects London 2017: All 37 entries in The Very Big Indie Pitch
|

Jeez Louise, each of these BIPs get harder and harder and what a bunch of great games we saw at yesterday's most EPIC Very Big Indie Pitch yet!

At the end of the competition we saw five of the strongest games take the floor but the winners were kept a secret until the end of the convention. Whilst they'll have a couple of articles of their own, let's take a look at the full list of worthy competitors (in no particular order).

TOP SEED: Tennis Manager by Gaminho

Grab it on Android, coming soon to iOS.

Working a little like a Soccer/Football Manager of sorts, TOP SEED: Tennis Manager lets you choose, train up, and dominate as the world's greatest tennis player.

Ocmo by TeamOcmo

Coming soon to iOS.

Ocmo is a brilliant and unique platformer with mechanics similar to Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin/Mind. Use your little creature's ropey grips to propel yourself across the level, using its intuitive physics to aid your journey.

Final Tale by Firetail Games

Coming to iOS and Android.

Final Tale is a bit of a mix of RPG, platformer, and hack-n-slash as you make your way through colourful levels and take on big, bad bosses.

Legend of Abhimanyu by ACY Entertainment

Coming to iOS.

Legend of Abhimanyu is an upcoming hack-n-slash action game inspired by mythology. Based on the 13th day of Mahabharata, you play as a young boy fighting alone against an army of warriors.

Run From the Sun by Ant Workshop

Coming to iOS and Android

Run From the Sun is a stunning space-themed endless runner in which you use the gravity of the planets to aid you (or sometimes hinder you) through the level. As you can guess from the title, the sun's snapping at your heels like an enormous, angry fireball.

Flipzyx by Paul Baker

Out on iOS.

This tile flipping/swapping puzzler put up a good fight in the competition. With bombs to blow up, you've got to use the fuse lines to get your spark to its destination.

M4rty by Dom Jones

Coming to iOS, Android, and Amazon

This student project had the bones of a good game. With tech-y concept art and an intriguing idea, this quirky, robotic platformer will be back with more meat on it, I've got no doubt.

Roundabout Way by Cappuccino Games

Coming to iOS and Android

You needed lightning-fast reactions for this puzzler. Kind of like a 'join-the-dots' in digital form, the game definitely offered up a challenge, but we're looking forward to seeing more of it.

OCO by Spectrum48

Coming to iOS and Android

OCO is a brilliant puzzler with some simplistic charm to it. Acting as a little yellow box, you've got to eat up the other yellow boxes by figuring out your way around the level.

Quadrick by SpikeJAP Studio

Out on Android, coming to iOS.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Quadrik is simple tile-sliding puzzler in which you have to match the image at the beginning by swapping and sliding the tiles around the grid in as few moves as possible. The fewer the moves, the more stars you get.

INOPS by ZRZ Studios

Coming to iOS and Android.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

INOPS has some true Badland style to the game. Using tilt controls you make your way through a platform level, avoiding the dangers in your path. Tap to collect and lose other soot-ish minions which look like they've fallen straight out of a Ghibli film and do it in the best time possible.

Suitcase Footrace by Jacob Connor Macleod

Coming to iOS and Android.

As probably the strangest concept I've heard at a BIP so far, you're a suitcase with legs running along a corridor, collecting coins and trying not to get bumped out of the way by anyone. The game was in very early development so we'll have to see where it goes.

Wild Guardians by Corse Games

Coming to iOS and Android.

Wild Guardians is a very polished tower defence game which works by setting up traps and fighters along the joining paths. Protect your base and destroy the enemy's.

Balls by Jason Tuyen Games

Coming to iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

yt

Another return contender in this Very Big Indie Pitch. Though there were some improvements from its last entry, Balls slipped short of taking on our top competitors.

Salad Hunt by Salad Hunters Inc.

Coming to iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

As a mobile game with Sausage Party madness, Salad Hunt pits you against a bunch of attacking salad ingredients. They may be healthy, but they're coming to get you if you aren't careful. Armed with an armoury of forks, salad bowls, and more, it's your job to take them out.

Link Twin by Lorraine Studio

Coming to iOS and Android.

Every time I see Link Twin I fall more in love with it. This striking puzzler is a thrilling experience between a pair of twins. This round's VBIP explained that the five different worlds represented the five stages of grief and added another level on top of what we've seen already.

Sinister Soccer by SinisterSoft Limited

Out on Android, coming to iOS.

Very little needs to be said about Sinister Soccer - it's a football game that even folks who don't like football will like. All it needs is a little spit and polish.

Sheep Frenzy 2 by Crimson Pine

Coming to iOS and Android.

I'll admit this game was actually pretty damn addictive. With an attractive art style and the right amount of difficulty, helping sheep bounce across a deadly plummet has never been so much fun.

Idle Miner Tycoon by Fluffy Fairy Games

Out on iOS and Android.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Idle Miner Tycoon is successful clicker in which you upgrade your mine, unearth gold, and make your fortune.

Electro Dash by EODE Group

Available on iOS and Android

yt

Electro Dash is a tidy-looking, high score-chasing arcade game with a retro feel. The controls were easy, the gameplay was amusing, and the whole thing was just rather nostalgic in a way.

Space 5 by Fablesmith

Coming to iOS and Android.

This one took a little bit for us to wrap our heads around. As a sci-fi adventure game set out a bit like a match-three puzzler, you've got to hope you get lucky with rockets in order to destroy oncoming asteroids.

Swing King and the Temple of Bling by Shedworks

Coming to iOS.

You may remember this one from a previous newsy (by yours truly), it was brilliant to finally get a look at the game. With a cutesy art style, Swing King had the makings of a great puzzler, it just needs a little tweaking.

Mascot Dunks by Crimson Pine

Coming to iOS and Android.

This simple one-touch arcade game was all about slamming balls in holes (laugh away). When jumping on trampolines you've got to tap the screen at the right time to bounce on the next one or to slam dunk your basketball. Tap it at the wrong time and you slam dunk yourself...into the ground...usually in a painful, ragdoll fashion.

Mona Lisa by Italic Pig

Coming to iOS and Android.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Yes, I also wrote about it earlier, but Mona Lisa was a hands-down brilliant game. Mixing speedpainting with heists and platforming, you're a dastardly art thief collecting famous paintings. Of course, to fool the guards you've got to paint one to take its place and in only a couple of minutes too.

AddX by Fabulous Games Pte Ltd.

Coming to iOS.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

After a run on Facebook, AddX continues to be an intriguing puzzler for fans of Rubix Cube solvers. The idea is to get the bottom row of squares to the top and vice versa, but the pieces will only move in certain directions.

Interrogation by Critique Gaming

Coming to iOS, Android, and Steam.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Interrogation is a very promising detective game with a lot of substantial narrative. You're on a strict time limit as you attempt to debunk a terrorist attack, but your methods effect the person you're questioning. Play nice and see if it gets you anywhere - play nasty and see if it gets you there faster.

Soccer Manager Arena by Soccer Manager

Coming to iOS and Android.

As a last minute entry, Soccer Manager Arena appeared at the Very Big Indie Pitch but failed to win the judges' favour over our top five. It's still a great looking management game with all of the regular quirks and charm of its previous titles.

Wordsworth by Michael Bowerman

Coming to iOS and Android.

Another past entry returns and this time with a little more finesse. Wordsworth is a sentence builder with a madlib quirk. You get a subject or theme and have to build up your phrase/sentence around that, and see how it ranks on the leaderboards.

Letters of Gold by Cupcake Entertainment

Coming to iOS and Android.

Letters of Gold is a Scrabble-like word game which acts more like a wordsearch. The idea is to find a word hidden amongst a bunch of letter and swipe across it to select it and gather the points. The words fall away and new ones fall down to take its place.

Fitness Freak by DC Lab

Coming to iOS, out on Android.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Part game and part app, Fitness Freak was created in order for you to keep an eye on how your training it going through the use of simple games. Just to add that extra element of pressure (or motivation) it pits you against your friends in an online leaderboard.

Silent Streets by Funbakers

Coming to iOS and Android.

Silent Streets is a narrative AR game which puts you in the heart of Victorian London. You're attempting to solve a murder and the more you walk, the more of the story locations you unlock.

Padegan by Yooz Games

Coming to iOS and Android.

As another late addition to the Pitch, Padegan is a Persian military game in which you combine matching soldier's heads and rank them up in order to clear your board and rack-up points. It's a little hard to explain well without available photos but we'll try and update it if we can get our hands on some.

Robots vs Ghosts by Hrair Mekhsian

Coming to iOS

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

Robots vs Ghosts is an insane, fast-paced shooter in which you play as a robot and have to shoot a bunch of ghosts (duh). You'll have the use of power-ups and special moves to aid you, but getting a high score isn't going to be easy.

AcroSplat by Appstreet Games

Coming to iOS and Android.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

AcroSplat had definitely grown a bit since the BIP at Appsworld and it was still just as fun. Control your little paint blob as you attempt to collect the stars and reach the end goal of the level.

Mao Mao Castle by Asobitech

Coming to iOS, Android, and Steam.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

This pixelated, retro beauty is a bag load of fun as you control your stretchy, dragon cat through a series of repeating challenges. Each time the wave is completed the game speeds up and things get that little bit harder.

Pixwing by Leandercorp

Coming to Android, out on iOS.

yt
Subscribe to Pocket Gamer on

In Pixwing you have to fly your plane along a specified course and through the linear hoops. If you miss a hoop, you've got to go back for it - those are the rules of the game. The tilt controller style of play was definitely the winner over its digital joystick, but overall it was an enjoyable game.

Starbeard by Leviathan Creative

Coming to iOS, Android, and Amazon.

Last but not least, Starbeard returned for yet another go at the Pitch. Hardly surprisingly, its continued improvements, beautiful art style, and entertaining gameplay just continued to impress the judges.
