Jim Carrey's about to make it really hard to hate Dr. Robotnik in Sonic The Hedgehog's upcoming film

Only a couple of weeks ago details were revealed regarding the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film, and they weren't quite what we'd expected from our favourite blue-spiked hero. However, recently we learnt there's another star joining the ranks and this time Jim Carrey isn't exactly an animal lover.

As reported by Deadline, Jim Carrey is currently negotiating to join the cast of Sonic The Hedgehog, including James Marsden (Enchanted) and Tika Sumpter (Ride Along). If negotiations go well the actor will be playing Dr. 'Eggman' Robotnik who, if you've never played STH, is the game's main villain.

Strange as the combination might seem, especially since Carrey has been focussing a lot on his painting recently, the more I think about it the more I like the idea. Back in the 90s/early 00s, Carrey was known for playing comedic roles in films such as Ace Ventura, The Grinch, Dumb and Dumber, and Liar Liar.

Since Dr. Robotnik is a stereotypical 'evil villain' - the sort that has a very pronounced tone and loves to insult his minions - I can see Carrey fitting in the role very well.

Whether the film will have a stable plot or not, I'm not too sure. Call me pessimistic, but I'm still not 100% convinced about a delinquent Sonic x good-guy cop partnership. I hope to be proven wrong, though.
