It's Christmas. That means the staff of Pocket Gamer is drunk, if not on alcohol then on the giddying sensation that comes from receiving numerous expensive presents.

All this frivolity means we're not writing stories today. To enable you to connect with us in a different way - one that doesn't involve the transmission of news, reviews, and features concerning the world of portable gaming - we've decided to go on about ourselves a bit.

Residing on the south coast, intern Simon is not only situated (nearly) the lowest on the English map of all the Pocket Gamer staff, but is also rather aptly the shortest in height as well. This means portable systems literally suit him right down to the ground.

Favourite portable gaming platform?

This year's DS releases didn't quite scale the heights of past years, but there was just enough (Black Ops, Warioware D.I.Y, and Ace Attorney Investigations) to keep it as my favourite handheld of 2010, and all time.

Favourite portable game of the year...

Half-minute Hero on PSP needs a little more recognition I think. It was a highly original title that proves the PSP can do more than just cut down conversions and mindless shooters.

...and of all time?

The original Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan And i'm not just saying that to look like an unbearably smarmy importing tool either - I really do love it. The music was unique, the characters were great, and the gameplay mechanics were spot on. I revisit it all the time.

Favourite home console game of the year...

By default Super Mario Galaxy 2, as I haven't actually played any other home console games released this year. It's not a bad default choice though - endlessly innovative and a lot of fun, even if it eventually becomes slightly tiresome.

...and of all time?

Probably Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube, although I don't have a proper 'best game' really. After struggling through many other Resi titles this one was a breath of fresh air - it was actually fun and not wilfully frustrating.

Will you be getting a 3DS?

Definitely, even if the price is a little high. I'm not much of a fan of the all new 3D trend that's recently emerged, but it's a new handheld from Nintendo - nothing more needs to be said really.

What are you hoping to get for Christmas?

An Atari Lynx. Sad I know, but my portable handheld collection has gaps that really need filling, and it can't be that bad a system, can it?

What's your new year's resolution?

To stop buying defunct, low quality retro handhelds.
