Pandora assembly to commence on April 1st
Open-source handheld is proud to be Made in Britain
It’s been a while since we reported on the current status of the highly-anticipated Pandora project, and by golly has a lot happened in since then.
It’s recently been confirmed that mass production of the machines - which essentially involves taking all the components and putting them together - will now take place on British soil, with all of the parts expected to reach Blighty for April 1st.
The original plan had been to assemble the units in the US, but apparently the company involved asked for too steep a price, so the parts are being shipped to the UK where Craig Rothwell and his dedicated team will build them.
Craig - along with Michael “EvilDragon” Mrozek - have put together a crack squad of workers who will dutifully construct each console whilst recording the moment for posterity via a live webcam feed.
Just think - if you’re one of the long-suffering fans who pre-ordered the Pandora all those month ago you may be able to see your machine being constructed. Exciting, eh?
Elsewhere, interest in Pandora is steadily building as the projected April 1st assembly date looms. Mrozek recently attended CeBIT in Germany where he held a talk on open-source machines. Unsurprisingly, the Pandora was one of his main talking points.
