Open Season for Gameloft on mobiles

Bears, deer, big-screen animation – it could all add up to a mobile treat

What is it with Gameloft and furry film animals?

Following the company's success with the official King Kong mobile game over Christmas, it has now signed up to create a title based on Open Season, this autumn's animated blockbuster.

There are no details on the game yet, but the film features a naive grizzly bear (pictured) and a fast-talking wild mule deer, so our bet is on a platform game a bit like Splinter Cell, except with more animals and less gun-toting spies. Similar to King Kong, in other words. Which in our view, is no bad thing.

Gameloft also announced plans to work on another animated flick, Surf's Up, which is out next summer.

Will Surf's Up on mobile be a bit like Splinter Cell, except with stoned animals in Hawaiian shirts instead of gun-toting spies?

We'll just have to wait and see.
