The launch of the mobile game Office Massacre has been cancelled, according to a report from Gamesindustry.biz, a news service for the computer and video games industry.

We reported on the release of the game earlier this week. It was touted as an '18s only' title due to the graphic violence being portrayed, and was scheduled for release in April.

A statement released by Alten8, the publisher of Office Massacre, explained why it pulled the game: "We are genuinely shocked by some of the press reactions to the game… No offence or damage to society was intended by this game, and we resent the comments made by some individuals about our company, also the unfair and unjust comparison of this game to other extreme games. We cannot allow Alten8 to become the centre of a witch hunt, or allow individuals to further their causes at the expense of our fledgling company."

The statement followed negative reports in some quarters of the media, which criticised the game for allegedly glorifying violence and Alten8 for acting irresponsibly in publishing it.

Office Massacre is the first game Pocket Gamer can recall being pulled due to negative publicity.
