Into the Black is an upcoming VR game developed for the Oculus rift by a small team of the UK's National Film & Television Design students.

You act as a spirit guardian in the Yellowstone National Park, sent to help guide a red fox and a brown bear away from the park's chaotic forest fires and towards safety. Though a friendship between a bear and a fox is likely to end in one of them getting eaten by the other, for their survival they need to work together.

Throwing Yellowstone into chaos, the fire pushes the local inhabitants into the Druid Wolf pack's territory, but that's not all. Man ascends upon them all to take advantage of the disaster, pushing you and the animals further and further into the black.

Given the popularity Firewatch drew after its release, it's fairly easy to predict that comparisons will be made between the two games. Both are gorgeous, both are emotive, and hopefully Into the Black will stand its own ground when the comparisons are made. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the narrator (a vital component in games such as this) will be voiced by Nigel Barber (Spectre, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc.).

It's currently being developed for the Oculus Rift and is slated to release sometime next year. However for those attending EGX this year you could take a look at it ahead of time as the developers will be bringing Into the Black to the show.
