O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: October 3rd

Last week's new releases apparently haven't made much of an indent on the charts, as yet, which is something of a shame as we had very high hopes for Virtua Fighter Mobile and Ernie Els Golf. Knocking Bejeweled from the top spot is a task that only a Bejeweled sequel is likely to accomplish (and one is in the works for the PC, jewel swapping fans – can't be long before it comes to the mobile), but the other positions have had a bit of a shuffle.

It's something of a curiosity that one type of game seems to encourage us to look deeper into that particular genre, however. While Ernie Els didn't chip his way onto the Top 10, Minigolf Revolution Pirate Park did creep into charts, and it seems the new entry from two weeks ago, Real Football Manager 2009, spurred mobile footy fans on for the release of FIFA 09, which leapt in at number two.

In a similar vein, Virtual Villagers is complimented by this week's new release of the original society builder, SimCity Metropolis. To be honest, we can never have too many conversions of the classic town planning simulator, and this latest micro-version looks set to do justice to the game's long and celebrated lineage.

The game we are expecting to climb the charts next week (quite literally, considering the gameplay) is Wonder Blocks. An intriguing take on the classic Tower Bloxx, the game is more than addictive enough to compete with the likes of Tetris and Jewel Story II, as you can see from our Wonder Blocks Silver Award review.

And on that rhyming note, we'll call it a do.
