O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: August 22nd

Light-hearted escapism seems to be the theme in this week's O2 New Releases. Nothing too heavy that demands we concentrate extra vigilantly or work extra hard to rack up the point – nothing we're required to sink out mobile gaming teeth into to reap the rewards.

Well, not unless Playboy Pool Party suggests the kind of content you're inclined to bite, chew and playfully gnaw upon. Heff's new game has been eagerly awaited by the male pocket gaming contingent for some time, so it'll undoubtedly raise an… eyebrow or two. Let's just hope it includes some of those fascinating and detailed current affairs articles we buy the magazine for, eh?

Alongside the Playboy Bunnies is something to stimulate your brain, too – the mobile adaptation of Bamber Gascoigne's haughty quiz for students with speech impediments, wonky glasses and who wear a scarf inside. Okay, perhaps that's something of an outdated view of University Challenge, but what would I know? The last time I saw the show, and actually managed to answer any questions, was when the Young Ones were there with their ferret mascot called Bacon Sandwich.

The charts, meanwhile, take an interesting turn as Guitar Hero Mobile III once again refuses to leave the stage and climbs a few more places to the number two spot (right, pop pickers), while Bejeweled celebrates its 25 millionth sale by landing right back at its familiar position at the top. It seems only fitting, considering the recent announcement that enough jewel-swapping gaming hours have been played to cause a new ice age (at least, that's how I interpreted the data supplied by PopCap).

It's also quite suitable that both Sonic and the official Beijing game have held on long enough to wave off the Chinese Olympics in good style. It's only four short years until the Official London 2012 Olympic Games mobile title will be tearing back up the O2 charts, and we predict by that time mobile gaming will have become an official Olympic sport and thumb steroids will have been banned from all good electronic retailers. You heard it here first.

All in all, this week's O2 chart and new releases spell out some excellent, casual entertainment, so head on over to the games portal now and fill up your mobile with some choice software.
