| O2 mobile charts

It's that time of your life (again) when the sharp white suit comes out of the wardrobe and you just have to strut! Player X is taking us nightclubbing with its spank-the-planks-tastic adaptation of the daddy cool movie, Saturday Night Fever.

If kitsch ain't your bag, there's also the unpronounceable magic puzzler Abracadaball to test your wand waving skills upon, or the moist adventures of a drop of water called Dewy also hitting the mobile market.

Once again the charts remain fascinatingly familiar as the top titles refuse to leave the Top 10. It seems as though we pocket gamers just can't put down the classics like Bejeweled, that's fought its way back to the top once again, along with two versions of the Russian block builder Tetris. Even Guitar Hero III has shredded its way back up the list after almost falling off the bottom last week.

In many ways, the difficulty for a new game to break into the Top 10 (and the ability to stay there for those that have managed it) speaks volumes about the challenges faced by the mobile game developer. It's a platform that only allows room for the most ingenious and addictive of games – a movie tie-in or character licence doesn't cut the mustard when it comes to climbing these charts.

Pocket gamers are clearly some of the most discerning and particular players out there, but they reward originality wherever they find it.

Remember, all the games below are available to buy via the O2 games portal or by texting the short code from a compatible O2 handset. You can also click 'Track It!' to be sure to catch next week's chart. Enjoy.

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
