O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: January 11th

After the initial explosion of brain-training games (forged largely on the back of the phenomenal success of Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old is your Brain), the second wave of 'me too' titles have had a harder time justifying themselves. After all, there's little that can be done to update a maths textbook.

And so we find the latest revisions of the various brain-training franchises have sprung up adorning themselves with extra reasons for their existence. Examples include this week's Brain Challenge Vol 2: Stress Management. Perhaps before long we will have a new trend; The Dalai Lama's Serenity Training: How one is your inner oneness?

A group of people that could do with a bit of serenity training are football managers who if they stuck to something like LMA Manager 08, also released this week, could sort out their high stakes football fix and keep their extra marital affairs firmly out of the tabloids (though at the expense of a generous yearly salary).

Proving that no TV show is free from being converted into a mobile game, the Jasper Carrot-fronted Golden Balls has had its Java makeover, leaving Spyro Eternal Night to add some playfulness to an otherwise adult line-up of new releases.

In the charts, Deal or No Deal is still sitting pretty in the top spot while Tetris's younger, leaner cousin, Tetris Mania, has waltzed merrily into second place. Catchphrase, Monopoly and the ever steady Sims 2 are all also holding their own but the remainder of the chart is populated with new entries, though not all from new games. Of the more recent releases Phil Taylor's Darts 3 has managed to make its way into the charts, thanks to the current Lakeside World Darts tournament.
