O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: January 16th

There’s some big new releases this week – important games that many of us have been waiting for on the edge of our seats – but for some almost inexplicable reason, I find myself excited to see Roy Walker return to the charts. It does me good to see an old classic come back to life, and having recently re-re-watched Phoenix Nights, my respect for the smooth Irish host is through the roof.

Anyway, all Mr Chips fetishes aside, it’s hard to know which hot release to fawn over first – Metal Slug 4 or Resident Evil Degeneration. Having just watched the Resident Evil CGI film, I’m tempted to start with that one. The movie itself played out very much like a non-interactive video game (if there was such a thing), which builds expectations for the game quite considerably. If even half the content of the movie is included, we should be in for a rip-roaring zombie-thon monster bash.

While Metal Slug 4 has the even more auspicious task of bringing the classic arcade console, the Neo Geo, to our micro screens – no small feat at all. Having played a Metal Slug 4 mobile preview, however, it’s quite astonishing to see how a games system from just a few years ago (a system that was capable of running coin-op quality games, mind you) has been shoehorned into a mobile phone – and the game sees a level of quality consistent with that of the Neo Geo.

So we’re running out of room, and haven’t even mentioned the other new releases, but what can you do when zombies, tanks and Roy Walker come at you all at once? New Releases January 16th
