Lara's a tough cookie to go head to head with, and we don't just mean for tigers and bears. The ultra-athletic babe is one of the biggest game sellers of all time, so anyone releasing a new game at the same time as Ms Croft starts performing her acrobatic antics in a new Tomb Raider game – such as Underworld – is likely to go fairly unnoticed.

But what can we do? We all love Lara, and she makes it very difficult to turn your longing gaze elsewhere whenever she appears in the nude releases. Er, I mean, new releases. So she's definitely headlining this week's O2 list, and we fully expect her to shimmy up the charts next week like it's a well-cropped vertical cliff with exactly the right number of handholds carved into it.

A surprise new release for anyone who's not so interested in plundering ancient ruins is Popeye – a simple yet undeniably entertaining re-visit to his classic '80s coin-op. The retro platformer has received something of a 21st Century graphical update, but the likeable essence remains fully intact.

Poor old Phil Talyor's been cast out of the charts this week, along with Tetris Mania and the Sega 2-4-1 Game Pack. Sneaking in at a suitably high number is a re-entry of The Simpson's first mobile game, Minutes to Meltdown – a game originally released to tie-in with the big summer movie that's now being given away at a bargain-budget price over at the O2 portal.

Well, that's enough chit-chat. We're off plundering dilapidated mausoleums for trinkets and riches in some devilishly tight clothes!

Come on, sing it with me: 'Who likes short shorts?'

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
