One of the sweetest things about being a game reviewer (other than the mountains of cash, massive prestige and unquenchable supply of chicks) is having a go at new games and applications before they’re released.

O2 launched its Litmus service last December (a provider specific version of the iPhone’s App Store) and is now looking to connect its customer base directly with the developers – while promoting the new service – to help them get direct feedback on how the platform can evolve.

“We are already seeing signs of strong growth, with nearly 150 applications developed and available since our launch just eight weeks ago,” says head of O2 Litmus, James Parton.

“O2 Litmus is driving quicker, better, innovative mobile apps that can be tried and used in days not months – by the user, for the user. By gaining valuable customer insight and taking on board the good and the bad feedback, O2 is creating, not just another apps store, but a completely consumer-led series of useful applications that will drive Mobile 2.0 into the next generation.”

O2 customers are being invited to test out and provide feedback on Litmus applications direct to the developer, and will receive a full version of the utility, game or app once it’s released. But another system allows you to essentially bid on jobs – offering a price you think a specific program test is worth and, if accepted, receive the hard cash upon completion of the test phase.

If you fancy getting in on the Litmus action (and you’re an O2 customer, of course), head on over to www.O2Litmus.co.uk and sign up.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
