Can’t stop (incredibly swift) progress

Leaked Nvidia roadmap shows Tegra 3 quad-core mobile CPU

Nvidia leaks are gushing right now.

Having already seen a close-up of a slide from the upcoming MWC presentation next month that highlighted the company’s 3D mobile chips, taking a step back serves to show the rest of Nvidia’s big reveal - the 1.5Ghz quad core Tegra 3.

The upcoming chip is listed as having "3x Faster Graphics", presumably over the current Tegra 2, as well as offering two different models for tablets and smartphones - the latter able to support resolutions of 1920x1200 and Blu-ray playback.

There were rumours last week that such a device was being readied by Nvidia, although it’s hard not to be taken aback by this development all the same - especially as the first dual-core devices have only just started rolling off the production line.

The leaked slide dates the Tegra 3 as being ready for "Fall 2011", which we presume means we won’t be seeing it inside consumer devices until the first quarter of 2012 at the earliest. It's more likely to be nearer autumn 2012 given that it’s taken a year since its unveiling for the Tegra 2 to enter the phone ecosystem.
