Nvidia may be set to unveil quad-core mobile processor at MWC

We’re still awaiting the arrival of the first Tegra 2-powered Android devices after an impressive showing at CES earlier in the month.

Dual-core is definitely the buzz word for 2011, and with good reason – the doubled-up approach is set to boost power and multi-tasking ability while increasing power efficiency.

We can’t wait to get our hands on the LG Optimus 2X, the Motorola Xoom and other devices set to sport the chip, as gaming performance should be blistering.

It appears that Nvidia is keen for us to keep one eye on the next stage, however. In keeping with Nvidia’s intention to launch a new Tegra chip every year, Hexus has speculated that we should see the quad-core Tegra 3 launched at MWC next month.

According to Nvidia’s general manager Mike Rayfield, Tegra 2’s successor “will be in production around the same time as my competitors’ first dual-cores will.”

Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement from sunny Barcelona between 14th and 17th February.
