Set to tango with Mango

First Nokia Windows Phone unlikely until 2012

Although Nokia boss Stephen Elop seemed confident that we’d be seeing at least some Windows Phone 7 handsets from the Finnish company this year, it seems there's probably won't.

The MD of Nokia India, D. Shivakumar, has told DNA India that the company is working on a 12-month schedule for the phones, meaning we’re unlikely to see any fruits of the partnership until 2012 at the earliest.

This date may mean that Nokia’s first batch of Windows Phone 7 handsets are likely to come with the second major update to the operating system - called Mango - scheduled for release early next year.

Mango adds certain functions Symbian fans will have been desperate to see retained if they switch mobile OS, like multi-tasking for third-party applications.

Whether or not this version will win over those upset with Nokia’s original decision to team-up with Microsoft is another thing altogether.
