In a slight poke at its major smartphone competitor, Nokia's new TV advertising campaign mixes up the iconography of its classic Snake game with what looks suspiciously like a bit of Apple bashing, well apple eating.

Due to go live in the UK on August 9 for three weeks, the campaign is based around the company's Ovi app store and highlights the growing number of apps available - shown as little boxes displaying the usual Facebook, Twitter, YouTube et al icons.

As these boxes swirl around in the air, they form a snake-like progression, which moves towards and then consumes various red boxes with little leaves on top - to all intents and purposes little apples.

It's only one element of the bright and breezy ad, and of course, unlikely to be noticed by (m)any consumers, but it does demonstrate that as the global leader in terms of smartphones sales, Nokia's preparing for an autumn fight back.

As well as ramping up its marketing of the Ovi Store over the summer, the company is gearing up for the release of its key N8 smartphone, which will be supported within a similarly styled app-focused TV campaign in September.
