There's a strange quirk in Chinese law that makes the DS the only legal games console, as it's distributed through a local company (iQue). Although the other systems are apparently easily available, the dominance of the DS is felt naturally quite strongly, so it's quite a surprise that it's taken this long for the DSi to go on sale.

According to Kotaku, the updated Nintendo DS hardware is now available in China, with images of a rather elaborate booth in Pu Xi, Shanghai, coaxing Chinese gamers over to the new Nintendo system.

The DSi will come preloaded with Nintendogs and 1000 free DSiWare points so early adopters can bag themselves some download content. The company is also working on localising the current Japanese line-up of DSiWare titles.

No word on if or when the DSi XL will be heading into mainland China, but it's likely to an equally long wait.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
