Snooping around the PEGI website has its advantages, as WiiWare-World discovered when it came across details of Gameloft’s intentions to get into the DSiWare market.

With the new Nintendo hardware update just around the corner, it seems the mobile gaming giant is getting ready to test out a couple of ports from its mobile catalogue. Pop Superstar: Road to Celebrity and Real Football 2009 have both been granted PEGI ratings, meaning they’re presumably ready for the US and UK console launch.

Pop Superstar lampoons the whole music-based reality TV arena, while Real Football 2009 is a basic yet fast and playable soccer game.

Both games landed themselves well-earned Silver Awards right here on Pocket Gamer, so they seem like a pretty good way for Gameloft to dip its toe in the initially shallow waters of DSiWare.

Of course, this leads us to hope Gameloft is gearing up to bring more of its massive mobile catalogue to the DSi's download service. Games like the outstanding Platinum Award winning Zombie Infection and hilariously entertaining Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain would be perfect for Nintendo's handheld, though releasing a full, commercial DS cartridge for each would be prohibitively expensive.

If this is to be Gameloft's way into handheld console gaming, we could be seeing some outstanding DSiWare games flooding onto the platform at a rate of knots. Got any requests for Gameloft to convert? Let us know in the comments section below.

This, we think, is quite exciting news.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
