10 million European DSs now... 20 million by Dec 07?
Sales rate is accelerating
Last week Nintendo Europe was boasting about selling 1.7 million DSs during December, and now it's got something else to get all smug about with the news it's sold ten million DS and DS Lites since the console was launched in March 2005.
Perhaps more impressive though is that four million of those sales have happened since September 2006.
So on that basis, we reckon the European DS total should reach 20 million by the end of 2007, although that assumes the price of the DS Lite is cut to the current price of the original DS – €130 or £89 – to keep sales ticking over.
Games are also selling well in Europe, with over five million Nintendogs in their virtual kennels, while Dr Kawashima's Brain Training is working the grey cells of over two million players. And New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Animal Crossing: Wild World have all surpassed one million sales in Europe.
Keen to spread the love around, Nintendo pointed out that DS games from other publishers – such as EA's The Sims 2 Pets, Sega's Sonic Rush and Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest – are selling well too.
