Play prices 3DS at £199.99

But is it only seeking attention?

Play prices 3DS at £199.99

3DS

Having been told last month that the release dates for certain 3DS titles were provided by its suppliers, only to have that quietly withdrawn a few days later, we hope you can forgive us for sounding ever-so-slightly cynical when Play.com suddenly comes out with something new about the 3DS.

This time it’s the console’s price. The site has pre-empted everyone, including Nintendo itself, by pricing it at £199.99 ($311 at today’s rates).

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that the site is merely guessing so as to drive hits, but seeing as that’s exactly the same price most of us predicted back in June, we'll give it a (grudging) mention.

But would Nintendo charge more than the price of a Wii for a portable console? What's the maximum the big N could charge before people start to look inside their wallets and wonder if the extra dimension is worth it?

We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments thread below.
