Google axes Nexus One

Flagship Android device no longer directly available

Google has sold its last Nexus One. The flagship device saw the last shipment sell out in a day as eager shoppers looked to snag themselves a piece of Google history.

The web giant announced in May that it would be shutting down its online store. Head on over to the website now and you’ll receive the message that the Nexus One is no longer available.

That’s not to say that you won’t be able to snag one through a carrier, though. The device is still available on Vodafone in the UK, for example.

It’s thought that Google is unlikely to attach its name to a second mobile handset, with the Nexus One simply intended to kickstart the company’s Android platform into life. While sales of the device have been disappointing, it’s arguably done its job as the platform is in prime position to overtake the iPhone by the end of 2010.
