The App Stork: Introducing Diabolika, Zombie Assault, CastleMaze
|

This week's all about the occult, with apps including monsters, demons, zombies and, erm, castles. Well, castles aren't especially occult by definition, but they are often haunted, aren't they?

Anyway, some cracking titles have come to our attention via our forums over the last week which you can read all about below.

If you've been busily posting about your new games in the iPhone and iPod touch developer news section of our forums over the last seven days and are disheartened to see that your game hasn't made it into the featured three list, remember this: we love pictures, YouTube videos and links.

The more of those you include in your posts, the more likely it is The App Stork will take a fancy to your latest creation.

If you your game hasn't appeared in The App Stork at all, then chances are we're planning on covering it in some other capacity on the site at some stage.

Now, on with this week's new arrivals...

Diabolika - Derek Yu

Diabolika is a turn-based chain reaction battle game in which you pit nine monsters of differing abilities and strengths against an almost never ending hoard of grinning red demons.

The chunky cartoon duelers look great and the gameplay, though not entirely original, sounds like fun and potentially quite addictive. The developer, Derek Yu, deserves an audience for his fearless approach to marketing alone. Check out the commercial below. It's as endearing as it is low-fi.

Zombie Assault - BIGITEC
If you take tower defence and add zombies, what do you get? Zombie Assault, that's what. Taking on a familiar template with a scrumptious undead theme, Zombie Assault's impressively coiffured members of the recently un-deceased are a perfect match for the genre.

Early reports on the App Store are that this is a tough nut to crack however, so don't expect these shuffling reanimates to wither at the first whiff of a sawn off shotgun. It's a steal at £0.59 - go get!

CastleMaze - Jose Barientos
Taking inspiration from titles such as Myst and RealMaze 3D, CastleMaze brings a fully traversable 3D world to the adventure game table. There are riddles, keys, doors, gardens, caves and cheeky pictures of the devs hiding in paintings dotted about the castle.

There are multi-touch controls, which look reasonably smooth in the video below. CastleMaze is still undergoing approval but developer Jose Barientos is hopeful it should be out soon. Until then, feast your eyes on the video below.
