Exit Games expands multiplayer development framework to Apple iPad
Will offer indie devs a cheaper way to include social gaming elements
The iPad’s multiplayer gaming aspirations have been given a boost by the recent confirmation that Germany tech firm Exit Games intends to bring its turn-based and real-time middleware software solutions to Apple’s yet-to-be-released device.
Dubbed Neutron and Photon, the two products support a wide range of platforms including PC, Mac, iPhone, and Android. The former handles turn-based wireless gameplay elements while the latter is focused on real-time management.
What’s more, these products are incredibly affordable - Photon development software costs just $100 - which means that cash-strapped indie devs can work multiplayer elements into their titles for the bear minimum of outlay.
Exit’s CEO Chris Wegmann is clearly excited about the development, saying: “The iPad opens a fascinating new product genre: our products will help developers to take advantage of this new opportunity at lower risk with a faster time-to-market”.
With social gaming becoming a very big deal, this announcement will hopefully see a flurry of multiplayer experiences for Apple’s new platform.
