It seems as if Connect2Media has been doing its homework, because it appears to have come up with the perfect formula for making retro-chic-obsessed mobile gamers (that’s us) explode with delight.

If you’re interested – and why wouldn’t you be? - that formula is: Snake + Pac-Man Championship Edition + Edge x Tron = Neon Runner.

The aim of the game is to guide your little neon triangle around a series of mazes, collecting the required number of pickups to unlock the level exit. It’s not quite as simple as steering your craft around and collecting everything in sight, however.

In the default Blue mode, the pace is fairly sedate and your craft will pick up any golden stars in front of and adjacent to it. Some of these stars, however, are stashed away behind green walls, requiring a switch to Red mode - which ups the pace to perilous levels - in order to smash your way through.

Red mode is also the only way you can grab the triangle-shaped pickups. With each level requiring a certain amount of both Blue and Red exploration, Neon Runner promises to be an intriguing twist on the traditional maze-runner.

We’re expecting Neon Runner to be released onto portals next week, but keep an eye out for our review in advance of that.
