Need for Speed ProStreet skids onto DS and PSP

Electronic Arts has announced the latest game in a series whose very name pays homage to experiencing the thrill of velocity. Need for Speed ProStreet is coming to both the DS and PSP, as well as home console formats.

The sequel will apparently mark a new direction for the series. We're told we will: '...compete head-to-head against the best street racers in a multitude of racing showdowns.'

Sounds awfully familiar to us so far, but perhaps the game will be packed with new features.

EA's in-house deformation technology, the fancily-named Autosculpt, is back; in game terms this basically means your car will get smashed up and as a result change how it drives as you race around the city streets, depending on how badly you treat it. More aggressive AI is also promised, as is a full suite of online modes with an emphasis on competitive social gaming.

We enjoyed the PSP version of Need for Speed Carbon just enough to be looking forward to this inevitable sequel. Here's hoping that EA manages to do more with the DS version this time around, too.

Need for Speed ProStreet is due towards the end of 2007. Click 'Track It!' to keep on its tail.
