Need For Speed Carbon zooms onto mobile phones

For those of you who are too chicken to race expensive cars at blistering speeds through desert canyons in the real world, good news! Now you can do it from the safety of your mobile phone, without risk of death or arrest.

Yes, EA Mobile is bringing Need For Speed Carbon to mobile, before it's even released on console next month. The game's going to be available in 2D and 3D versions, and is set to offer a mixture of street and canyon tracks, giving plenty of variety.

There's even a multiplayer mode, although EA hasn't announced if this is over the network, or by passing a handset around. We're getting a hands-on squiz at the game today, so rest assured we'll have more details soon, and hopefully some decent screens too.

There's also good news for O2 subscribers, as the operator has signed a deal to launch Need For Speed Carbon first this month, before it becomes available next month on other operators.

What's more, O2 and EA have also teamed up for a special promotion in December, offering people a free game to download on any Monday in that month. You can choose from Need For Speed Carbon, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Tetris and FIFA 06.
