The word 'museum' usually conjures up images of boring tapestries, mouldy mummies and fighting off OAPs and overexcited schoolchildren in the coffee shop. Well, it does for us anyway. But stick the word 'Namco' in front of it and suddenly it becomes a considerably more appealing prospect.

Which is just what Atari has done today with its announcement that Namco Museum DS will be released in the UK in February.

The game includes eight classic arcade games in total: Pac-Man, Pac-Man Vs, Galaga, Xevious, Dig Dug II, Galaxian, Mappy and The Tower of Druaga.

Pac-Man Vs is a game previously only available as a limited edition freebie with a couple of previous Pac-Man titles, so it's one that should keep the hardcore fans happy. It's also playable wirelessly for up to four players using one game cartridge, with one playing as Pac-Man himself and the others as the pesky ghosts.

Another inclusion is a unique DS screen mode selection which lets you switch between classic screen views and ones adapted specifically to DS.

New screenshots have been released for the game (above) but the February release date means it won't be long before those after a spot of retro gaming will be able to see it in the flesh on their own DSs.
