2K Games has released a version of its latest ice-scraping and puck-smacking sports sim NHL 2K11. The developer has the advantage of playing on an empty field, by having the first proper hockey game to appear on iPhone.

Based on the console game engine, but squeezed onto your 3-inch touchscreen slab, 2K11 promises an in-depth simulation of the sport, plus some pretty realistic AI and a whole bunch of hockey action.

The game is packed with modes: a Quick Game for impromptu face-offs, a Season mode for a full career, and addictive Free Skate and Shootout modes. You’ve also got awards to unlock and a full Practice mode.

The game’s beefy 3D graphics require a little more welly than first generation devices can handle, so the first generation iPod touch, the original iPhone, and even the iPhone 3G areout of the running.

NHL 2K11 is available now for iPhone and iPod touch, for £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59.
