Freeverse slamdunks in an arcade style with NBA Hotshot

US publisher Freeverse had a pretty successful 2009 thanks to games like the million-selling Flick Fishing and the US Christmas #1 Skee-Ball, and it seems keen to keep up the momentum in 2010.

Indeed, new game NBA Hotshot reminds me of Skee-Ball a lot; both in terms of its arcade style, the fixed camera perspective, and the cunning use of a licence.

Of course, the licence in this case probably cost a lot more than the Skee-Ball one did, because as well the NBA logo splashed around on the main screen, you can also win balls in the logos of the various NBA teams.

In terms of the basic gameplay, it's a physics-based simulation, in which you're throwing balls at the hoop in a timed mode, and a precision three strikes and you're out mode.

Sinking baskets fills up your prize meter, which then allows you to claim your virtual prizes included logo-ed balls, which you can use in-game.

Keeping up the competitive edge, you can play in a local networked mode against up to five players, while online achievements and leader boards are provided by the Plus+ system.

NBA Hotshot is out now priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p. Sink the App Store button to get it now.
