Rumour: Nokia already planning PSP-style N-Gage handset

You might think Nokia has enough on its plate launching its new N-Gage platform, without planning for the next step. But that would be harsh: research and development is intrinsic to the company's attempts to stay top dog in mobile.

So, take a glimpse at the future for N-Gage (above). Looks a lot like a PSP, doesn't it? In that it's a widescreen handset gripped with both hands, with triggers on top and two thumb-pads to control games with.

According to Gizmodo, that's the form of the next next-gen N-Gage, as revealed in a Nokia patent application (pictured above).

Our immediate question is whether regular N-Gage games will run on this putative new handset, at the higher resolution demanded by the larger screen. Also, is PSP really the device to be copying for massmarket success?

Anyway, let us know what you think. We are, of course, stlll checking the N-Gage site feverishly for any sign of the 'Frst Access' N-Gage application...

Update: Nokia has confirmed its N-Gage launch has been delayed until 2008.
