Nokia holds new N-Gage publisher workshops in Japan and China

You might remember that back in January, we reported on some secret N-Gage workshops for developers and publishers, at which Nokia gave them more details of its next gen gaming platform.

Well, Nokia is at it again. This week, we've learned, the company has held two more workshops, except this time they're focused on Asian firms (the last two workshops were in Santa Monica and Madrid).

On Tuesday, Nokia held a workshop in Beijing for Chinese developers and publishers to attend, while today there's been a similar event in Tokyo for Japanese firms.

Under discussion: the N-Gage development environment, tools and business models. Intriguingly though, alongside all this are discussions of how Nokia plans to make 'community, social networking and social media' part of its new gaming platform.

We knew that community will be a big part of next-gen N-Gage, but social networking (think MySpace/Facebook) and social media (think YouTube) would bring a whole new dimension.

We don't have any information on which firms attended the two new workshops, other than that it was 'key game publishers'. The Santa Monica event in January was attended by the US divisions of Sega, Square Enix, Capcom, Tecmo and Namco, so it's a fair bet they're involved in the new Japanese workshop, too.
