In these troubled times of ASBOs and youth violence, those conscientious chaps at CDV are providing us with a fully fledged parenting simulator.

Well alright, it's not quite that. Rather, My Little Baby appears to be a Nintendogs-style affair – only with a gurgling little tyke in place of a furry pet. Your first task is to design the parents' physical attributes in terms of things like eye colour, hair colour and skin tone. This will determine how your baby will look.

It's then a matter of caring for the child by feeding, cleaning, entertaining and dressing it. If that all sounds like hard work then fear not – many of the tasks are presented as simple mini-games.

All of the expected customisation elements appear to be present, with the potential to take the brat shopping for items like clothes, furniture and toys.

Other standout features include being able to teach your child to talk using the DS microphone, and the ability to take snaps of your progeny and enter it into beauty contests.

We're already anticipating a sequel focussed on looking after a teen, where you have to act as a taxi at weekends and bark "you're not going out like that!" into the microphone.

We'll let you know how this one turns out once it emerges from gestation.
