Cave’s Mushihimesama Bug Panic lands on iPhone

Cave’s latest foray into the world of iPhone is out now, as Mushihimesama Bug Panic hits the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch.

Unlike the Japanese company’s previous titles, Espgaluda and DoDonPachi, Bug Panic is more story-focused, with comic-book cut-scenes. You play as Reco, who treks through the Shinju Forest to bring peace back to the insect kingdom. Peace... using gigantic bombs.

The game plays like a twin-stick shooter, as you dodge a carpet of bullets and chuck a variety of different seed bombs at your foes. Take down enough evil bugs and you’ll move on to the next stage. Then, you can replay those levels in Score Trials mode for better points.

Bug Panic features Game Center support, with achievements and leaderboards on Apple’s service, as well as a bunch of different control methods to choose from.

The game is out now, but only on compatible hardware. You’ll need an iPhone 4 or 3GS, or an iPod touch from the third generation or up. It’s not a Universal App, but the iPhone edition will also run on iPad without a hitch. If you’re unsure, get the free trial edition to see if your device is man enough.

Mushihimesama Bug Panic is out now for £2.39 / $3.99 / €2.99.
