Fight slavery with... munchy caterpillars?

What do cannibalistic caterpillars and child slavery got in common? Very little. Or so you'd think: US mobile games developer GenPlay Games has seemingly found the link with its new game Muncher.

The game sees you playing a hungry caterpillar, who has to eat a bunch of other caterpillars and survive 50 stages in order to win an unspecified event (the World Grub-Chewing Championships?) and reach 'The Great Transformation'.

The levels include various environments – plantlife, rocks, snow, sand and lava for example – and there's bonus stages to break up the action. So where does the slavery come in?

Well, GenPlay is donating 50 per cent of its revenues from Muncher in the US to five anti-slavery organisations, after teaming up with the Not For Sale Campaign.

"Many of the executives here are very passionate about utilising business to make an impact," says Michelle Lee, GenPlay's director of marketing.

"From a consumer point of view, Muncher is a great way to kill time, be entertained and contribute to a great cause. From our end, the greatest reward is using it to spread awareness of this issue and help free child slaves."

It sounds like a great idea to us. Here's hoping Muncher comes out here in Europe soon, so we can boost those donations even more.
