Japanese blog Macotakara is reporting that Hitachi Displays and Sony Mobile Display Corporation have already begun shipping four-inch displays for a "new iOS device", as well as a new iPad-sized LCD display.
According to the blog's source: "Hitachi Displays, Ltd. and Sony Mobile Display Corporation started to ship four-inch LCD for new iOS device and LCD for iPad 3."
Although the source doesn't mention a specific iOS device for the new four-inch screen, Apple's next iPhone iteration is a major contender. After all, one of iLounge's "most reliable" sources claimed just last week that the iPhone 5 will sport a larger screen.
Apple's previous iPhone models have all sported 3.5-inch displays, but these are starting to look small when compared with some other phones on the market. MacRumors
Why do people and journos (pretty much every single website out there) still insist on referring to the next iPhone as "iPhone 5"? We had the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (cos it's the 4th iPhone) and iPhone 4S. If Apple are going for a major overhaul for the next iPhone, then surely it's going to be the iPhone 6 or something to that effect? Apple never complicate things when it comes to naming devices, it's always simple and logical, so there's no chance of the next phone being called the iPhone 5 as that goes against basic logic.

The iPhone's screen size is perfect for my needs. Why does it need to be so damn big, anyway? Large screens drink more juice and it's power which current batteries simply don't have. This is why many smartphones need constant charging; the batteries are just not up to the job.
By all means, make faster phones with larger screens, but not at the expense of neglecting battery technology. The best phone in the world is reduced to an expensive paper weight without a suitably powerful source of mobile power. Talk about trying to run before you can walk.
